Author Guidelines

General Guidelines

  • Articles should be no more than 6000 words and be arranged into sections (see submission of articles to guide you through the structure).
  • Authors should highlight the broader research problem their project sought to address, outline the academic literature as a background, and highlight the research gap.
  • It will be important for authors to highlight how the research was conducted and the rationale for the methodology. The findings should be presented in a format that is accessible and suitable to the methodology (for example, graphs and tables are accepted).
  • A discussion section should include how the research addresses the research gap and question, with conclusions and recommendations for policing, either at a local, national, or international level.
  • Articles submitted to this journal must follow the research ethics sought to avoid compromising anonymity and confidentiality or any issues that compromise data protection. Please ensure that there is no identifiable information about victims or individuals.  Where the research has been undertaken within a police force, include details of that police force’s approval for the research and the submission for publication. This should also be anonymised and comply with any legal requirements.

Graphs and Tables

  • Ensure that every graph or table is referred to in the text. The graph or table will be placed after the first mention in the text.  Legends should be short and descriptive and define any acronyms, abbreviations or symbols used.
  • Tables should be submitted in their original Word format. Number each table consecutively with Arabic numerals in order of appearance.

Language Editing

  • To enhance the clarity and quality of your manuscript, we recommend language editing, particularly if English is not your first language. This service aims to refine the academic content of your paper, ensuring that your ideas are expressed clearly and coherently. Authors are responsible for all costs associated with language editing services.
